Before reading the rest of my article…
Many people maybe already know about “the cave” by Plato then you will probably totally understand everything I’m going to tell you in the rest of this article. If you don’t know the story it would be nice if you first watch the video above. I added the video because I can be a little lazy myself and there are probably many other people that are lazy too. To make a long story listening to a video is way cooler and easier then reading for half an hour.

Plato was talking about SEO
It is a fact that Plato was a very wise man. He told many stories and the cave is one of my favourites. Plato is already long gone but his stories still reflects a truth of the world of today. Actually if you listen to the story of the cave and you really think about it. The story could might as well be about SEO.

Who are those people in the cave?
He starts talking about people that are trapped in a cave. These people are actually the clients you have in the SEO business or ignorant people on the Internet.

And what is the cave a symbol for?
The cave symbolises an imaginary world where people live who think what they see is the truth. Outside the cave is reality…

What about the light and the images on the wall?
Because there is a hole in the cave where a light of a fire shines through, there appear a lot of images on the wall in front of the people inside the cave. Because the people are in the cave from birth they make up there own truth about the images on the wall. This is actually about People who think they know how SEO works, but in fact they have only seen a shadow on the wall and make up their own truth.

How can you tell these people the truth
These people have lived in a cave their whole lives have made up their own truths. If you would go inside the cave and tell them the truth about (SEO) they would all think you are crazy, because they see the truth in a whole different way. If you drag these people outside, the light will hurt there eyes so bad that it will take a long time till they will see reality and when they suddenly can see you will totally shock them.
If you would tell the truth about SEO to your potential client to sudden, because he doesn’t know anything else but his own truth he will not believe you. But if you take that one person outside gently it will not be that big of a shock and because the light doesn’t hurt his eyes so much, he will slowly start to believe you.
It is very important to take only one person outside the cave, because if you take all they will all hold on to their own reality and believes. If you take one and show him the truth about SEO he will probably believe you. And when you send that one person back to his company (or back to his cave) because all people in the cave will trust the guy that comes back, the guy can probably convince all of them. By taking them outside and to the truth one at a time, so that more and more people can convince other people back in the company/cave.

So now you know, Plato was also talking about SEO business.
